Inductively Coupled Plasma

AFOSR - Air Force Office of Science and Research

Post-Doctorate Researcher (Working and collaborating with an amazing team from OSU and UCLA under the tutelage of Prof. Richard E. Wirz).

Supported by the AFOSR, this project investigates how radio-frequency (RF) power couples into molecular propellants to create a stable, high-density plasma suitable for air-breathing electric propulsion. My team at Oregon State University and collaborators at UCLA integrate simulations with experimental diagnostics to map electron temperature, plasma potential, and magnetic-field penetration in the 1–10 mTorr regime. Our findings reveal how coil geometry, matching-network design, and gas composition tune ionization efficiency—knowledge that underpins a new generation of cathode-less thrusters for very-low Earth orbit (VLEO) satellites.
